Diploma in Healthcare Ethics & Professionalism (DHEP)

The Bioethics Department of Shalamar Medical & Dental College and the LUMS Learning Institute (LLI) have launched a one-year  diploma to address basic healthcare ethics and professionalism issues.

This diploma tackles challenges today’s healthcare professionals face, covering clinical ethics, research ethics, leadership, and professionalism. This unique curriculum brings together the expertise of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, ethics committee members, policymakers, researchers, and hospital administrators to develop professional competencies, ethical practices, and policies in Research, Education, and Clinical Practice.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from HEC recognized educational institution. This course is designed for students with the following profile:

FAQs

  1. Can we attend DHEP online?

    DHEP has two mandatory in-person sessions (one at the beginning and one at the end). The rest can be attended online.

  2.  What is the structure of the diploma program?

    The diploma includes:

    – Daily and weekly discussions on CANVAS.

    – Hybrid sessions held on some Saturdays (not every Saturday).

    -Mandatory semester assignments.

    -A final research project.

    -Regular attendance and active class participation are required.

  3. Is there any work experience required?

    We advise that participants have a minimum of 2 years of experience in their relevant field in addition to a professional qualification. However, you may go through the course outline linked on our website, and if you are comfortable with the course content, you are encouraged to apply.

  4. How much is each course for?

    150,000/- PKR

  6. What does the selection timeline and process look like?

    -The selection process follows a clear timeline to ensure transparency and fairness.

    -Registration Deadline: All applications must be submitted by 18th July 2025.

    -Announcement of Selected Candidates: The final list of selected candidates will be released by 25th July 2025.

    -Payment Deadline: Selected candidates must complete their payment by 1st August 2025 to confirm their     participation.

  7. Who can register?

    The following people are eligible for DHEP:

    1. Doctors with MBBS/BDS with 2 years of experience
    2. Nurses with BScN with the minimum of 2 years experience
    3. Other healthcare professionals with 16 years of education or at least two years’ work experience
    4. Researchers/Managers with 16 years of education with two years post-qualification work experience
