The Department of Psychiatry at Shalamar Hospital, established in 1996, is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care.

Faculty Expertise:

Departmental faculty are trained in bioethics and professionalism at national and international levels. They serve as facilitators in DHEP, conduct internal workshops, and attend conferences for professional growth. Dr. Sarosh Saleem is the only PhD (Health Care Ethics) and trained Clinical Ethicist in Pakistan, while Ms. Amna Farooq is the only qualified Islamic Bioethicist working in Pakistan.

The department collaborated with national and international faculty in facilitating the DHEP program and conducting workshops at SMDC.

Evaluation and Impact:

All activities include structured evaluations. Feedback shows high faculty satisfaction, increased integration of ethics into teaching/assessment, and improved reflective practices. Based on feedback, more case-based and interprofessional discussions have been incorporated.

Activity 24-UNICEF Delegation’s Meeting on Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) Initiative

  • Introduced mother support groups and peer counselling to encourage home-based continuation of KMC after discharge.
