The Diploma in Healthcare Ethics & Professionalism offered by the Bioethics Department of Shalamar Medical & Dental College addresses basic healthcare ethics and professionalism issues. It confronts challenges today’s healthcare professionals face, covering clinical ethics, research ethics, leadership, and professionalism. The unique curriculum offers doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, ethics committee members, policymakers, researchers, and hospital administrators a guide to developing professional competencies, ethical practices, and policies in Research, Education, and Clinical Practice.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from HEC recognized educational institution. This course is designed for students with the following profile:
- Doctors with MBBS/BDS with 2-year experience
- Nurses with BScN with the minimum of 2 years experience
- Other healthcare professionals with 16 years of education and at least two years of have the the work experience
- Researchers/ Managers with 16 years of education with two years post-qualification work experience.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION
Local/Foreign Applicants
- The applicant must have passed FSc. (Pre-Medical)/Higher Secondary School Certificate or an examination of a foreign university or examining body with at least three (3) Science Subjects, i.e., Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics obtaining minimum sixty-five (65) percent marks in aggregate. In the foreign examination, such course must have been duly certified by the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) as equivalent to FSc. (Pre-Medical) or Intermediate Level of Pakistan.
- The foreign applicant with Foreign Nationality having completed their last two years of schooling from abroad, desirous of taking admission in MBBS Course must have passed, obtaining minimum sixty-five (65) percent marks in aggregate, in an examination of a course from a foreign university or its examining body or its education system in at least three (3) Science Subjects, i.e., Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics and such course must have been duly certified by IBCC as equivalent to FSc. (Pre-Medical)/Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or Intermediate Level of Pakistan.
- FOR A” Level/IB/American 12th Grade Applicant
A Letter of Equivalence of Grades shall be required in Science Subjects (i.e., Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics), issued separately by IBCC for calculation of Merit as per PMC regulations.
- Foreign Student means a student who is not a Pakistani student/National and holds only a Foreign Nationality.
- The candidate must have passed MDCAT conducted by the National Medical Authority of Pakistan Medical Commission with at least sixty-five (65) percent.
As per PMC regulations, an MDCAT result is valid for two years. Therefore, students who attempted the 2020 MDCAT can rely on their 2020 MDCAT after PMC equivalences for applying for admission in 2021, subject to the 2021-22 admission criteria.
MERIT DETERMINATION
The following Weightage Formula shall determine the Merit for all categories:-
- (Pre Medical)/HSSC/IB/ Equivalent: 40%
(Merit shall be calculated by considering score in (3) three Science Subjects, i.e., the Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics as per PMC admission guidelines) - MDCAT: 40%
- Admission Interviews/MMIs: 20%

Fee Refund Policy
(PMC admission regulations 2021 Clause 9 (9) refers-: Suppose a student, after having obtained admission, seeks to either leave the program or desire to have the transfer from the college. In that case, the college shall have the right to adjust the tuition fee already paid pro-rata to the period spent by the student in the program along with a penalty not exceeding ten percent of the total annual fee in the event the student seeks to leave the program in the *middle of the academic year to transfer to another College.
In the light of the above clause of admission regulations of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), the College refund policy shall be as follows:
- Before the classes’ commencement, all College dues will be refunded except the admission fee.
- After the commencement of classes – All College Dues will be refunded after deduction of the Admission fee and the tuition fee for the study period availed in terms of days/months. The study period shall be calculated based on calendar days spent at the College.
Note: * The academic year shall be determined by observing 36 weeks of required academics/training in an academic year.
